Hydroclimatology-Based Green Building Planning for a Two-Story Office Building in Gunung Pangilun, Padang, Indonesia
Main Article Content
Abstract
The implementation of green building principles in office buildings located in humid tropical climates is a strategic approach to reducing fossil energy consumption and improving freshwater harvesting potential, and carbon-emission reduction for a two-story office building with a total floor area of 3000 m2 in Gunung Pangilun, Padang, Indonesia. The analysis refers to Indonesia National Standards SNI 03-6397-2000 and SNI 03-7065-2005, as well as the Greenship assessment criterial developed by the Green Building Council Indonesia. Based on data from the Indonesia Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics, the study area receives an average annual rainfall of 3,900 mm. with an occupancy capacity of 300 people, passive and active energy-efficiency strategies are estimated to reduce energy consumption by 30%. A 75 kWp rooftop solar photovoltaic system is projected to generate 101,250kWh annually. Overall, these measures reduce electricity demand from the national grid by 48.75% and lower carbon emission by 223.76 tonnes of CO2 per year. Rainwater harvesting from a 1,500 m2 roof area could provide 4,972.5 m3 annually, fully meeting the buildings operational water demand of 2,812.5 m3 after 25% reduction through water-efficient fixtures under the proposed design.
